Victims of Crime & Domestic Violence Services program is consistent with the person-centered approach that is at the heart of our center’s philosophy and culture. Bronx Independent Living Services is committed to helping victims of crime rebuild their lives. Our services to victims of crime and domestic violence vary with the needs of everyone. Our program ensures that every crime victim has access to services and support. Furthermore, Crime the program provides services and support to people with all disabilities including those previously unserved or underserved because of: barriers associated with disability; language and cultural barriers; a fear of disclosure and desire for anonymity; feelings of isolation and despondency; a lack of information about and understanding of the peer services, community resources and tools for personal empowerment that are available.
As circumstances warrant, services can include crisis interventions; assistance with filing compensation claims with the Office of Victims’ Services—in which provides financial assistance and reimbursement to eligible victims of crime for medical and counseling expenses, funeral and burial expenses, lost wages and support; referrals to safe havens; Personal advocacy; Criminal Justice advocacy to NYC Precincts and Family and Criminal Courts justice systems and support; Benefits Advisement and Advocacy; Fair hearings Advocacy; Individual Counseling; Support Groups & Workshops; Victims’ Rights Education.
Individuals seeking Crime Victims’ Services need to have one of the following documents: a police report or a court case stating that you are a victim of a crime.
